The Business Development Unit (which includes the company Informatics, USA, providing "ready to use" barcode solutions to Small/Mid Businesses and the company Evolution Robotics Retail, USA, a leading provider of solutions based on visual pattern recognition technology)  is headquartered in Bologna and deals with the development of new business platforms within the Group and the evaluation of new merger and acquisition opportunities.

Datalogic's Business Development strategy is to promote expansion by pursuing opportunities for innovation and growth in accordance with our strategic guidelines:

Focus on two major pillars of growth in the ADC (Automatic Data Capture) and Factory Automation markets
Foster external growth through M&A activities, mainly in the Automation market that is very fragmented
Expand emerging market presence, through strategic alliances and foregn investments.

The Business Development Unit is also an incubator for nurturing the growth of new businesses within the Group through programs designed to accelerate their successful development and through an array of business support resources and services, designed and orchestrated by incubator management. Successful completion of a business incubation program enables the new business to become part of the strategic operating divisions of the Group. Recent experiences successfully completed are:

- Laservall and EMS which are now part of Datalogic Automation
- EBS which is now part of Datalogic Mobile.
